  • CEO of Cafcass (2004-19), the national agency with responsibility for safeguarding 140,000 vulnerable children annually, responsible for 2000 staff and for implementing ground-breaking systemic change
  • Chaired a UK-wide charity (BAAF) for 10 years dealing with the 4 UK Governments before merging it with another charity, Coram, to ensure its sustainability. Currently Chair of the Board of a Social Enterprise (Cornerstone, the specialist provider for virtual reality in the care sector)
  • An Accounting Officer for 15 years, covering all aspects of governance, compliance and audit
  • A government adviser on a range of reviews and programmes, e.g., Youth Crime (1998); review of the Crown Prosecution Service for the Cabinet Office (2008); Foreign and Commonwealth Office reviews of safeguarding on St Helena (2018):Turks and Caicos (2018): Cayman Islands, Anguilla and Montserrat (2019): and Bermuda (2021). Chair of the Welsh Government’s Oversight Board about the whole of Children’s Services in Wales (2022 and continuing)
